Sonnet 8

It gets tough on single divas - sadly

Hyperstardom rarely brings spousal joy

To passionate performers who gladly

Wear strange outfits to sing of male annoy.

There's small revenue from recorded sounds:

We want access, not possession for ear,

On the world's stage she dances and confounds

Coupledumbness with guys we shouldn't bear.

Cher Dusty Madonna sing another

Hymn to more even gender ordering:

Sires unrequired by the happy mother,

All by herself one pleasing note WILL sing

Her speechless songs. The many, seeming one,

Mouths back to she: one's much more than none*

*"One is no number; maids are nothing then/ Without the sweet
     society of men"

Chrisopher Marlowe, Hero and Leander
