Sonnet 55
Out of town malls faked-up like monuments
Where poets go to sup caffeine and rhyme,
Ruminating on paninis' contents,
Analysing cookies; cakes; sex and time.
Profit is loss, turnover/overturn
The fabricated concrete masonry -
There can be no force of nature will burn
To commit this Pompeii to memory:
New ones get built faster than enmity
Breeds one to one war in the changing room,
What one wears what counts for posterity
Amid consumer mentality doom.
If the need for some refund should arise,
We die in this, and other shoppers' eyes.
